Psychiatrist Zita Alseikienė

SPECIALIZATION:
Psychiatric pathologies that can be treated on an outpatient basis.

Counseling of adults and elderly patients in Lithuanian.

ABOUT
If we do not change anything, nothing will change or may change not according to our wishes. Only our active action can cause the desired changes. It is important not to harm, not to make things worse than they were.

I work honestly, I understand that for everyone who comes to the consultation, it is very important what and how the specialist will say. I am focused on the client, his needs (of course, it is often impossible to fulfill them). I try to work carefully, not to injure, because our clients are usually very sensitive.

I am for holistic medicine. I try to be interested in medical innovations, new diagnostic and treatment methods both in psychiatry and general medicine. I am for an open and full-fledged relationship with the client, as with an equal partner in the recovery process.

I have been interested in obsessive-compulsive disorder, dementia treatment, early diagnosis, differential diagnosis and prevention for a long time.

NATURE OF WORK
I consult adults and seniors. I mostly use a standard psychiatric interview. With psychotherapy patients – supportive psychotherapy, which is less “strict” than psychodynamic and causes less stress for the patient, there is more explanation.

I apply body and imagination techniques that are used in trauma therapy, sometimes I use EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing technique, used in the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder).

I want to emphasize that it is very natural to be nervous before the first meeting, because it is not clear what to expect and you need to open up. During the conversation, the excitement passes. It would be great if you prepared before the first meeting:

If it is a psychiatric problem, not only the symptoms are relevant, but also what the treatment was, what is effective, what is not, the names and doses of the drugs, as well as concomitant diseases and their treatment. If you have them, bring epicrisis or research findings.
If it is a psychotherapeutic problem, think about what you would like to tell, what you would like to ask.

EXPERIENCE
Total work experience in medicine – 36 years.
I worked as a psychiatrist only on an outpatient basis, as a psychotherapist – on an outpatient basis, as well as in a rehabilitation department and a day hospital.
At the beginning of my work, I worked as a neurologist in the neurology department as an inpatient for several years.
23 years ago I completed individual psychodynamic psychotherapy and recently – a course in integrative trauma therapy.
