Child and Adolescent Psychologist and Psychiatrist Consultation

When Should You See a Child or Adolescent Psychologist or Psychiatrist?

We provide consultations for children and adolescents who are experiencing a wide range of difficulties, including:

  • communication or adjustment problems;
  • violence or bullying at school or in other settings;
  • emotional difficulties (fears, prolonged sadness, etc.);
  • loss, parental divorce, or other traumatic events;
  • learning difficulties;
  • very low self-esteem.

We also offer career guidance services for adolescents who are choosing an educational path or a future profession.

Depending on individual needs, we may use additional tools alongside standard counseling, including:

  • career interest and aptitude tests;
  • career information methods (help finding specific information about admissions or studies, and guidance on how to use key career information resources).

Intellectual Ability Assessment (WISC-III)

The clinic also provides intellectual ability assessments for children and adolescents using the WISC-III (Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children). This assessment is used for children and adolescents aged 6 years to 16 years 11 months. It evaluates overall intellectual functioning (IQ) as well as specific domains of ability. The results help identify individual strengths and areas that may contribute to difficulties. Recommendations are provided based on the findings.

Assessment is recommended when:

  • you want to determine a child’s ability level (for example, when exploring whether a child may be exceptionally gifted);
  • you want to clarify possible reasons for learning difficulties;
  • you want to identify cognitive strengths that can help guide future educational or career choices.

The assessment includes:

  • an introductory interview;
  • testing (usually 1.5–2 hours);
  • preparation of a written report;
  • a feedback meeting to review results and recommendations.

We also consult parents and other close family members on a range of issues. We organize a self-help group for parents raising a child with an autism spectrum disorder.
